Reimagining Healing Across the Care Spectrum
Details

We partnered with a confidential hospital to deliver a comprehensive series of renovations across six specialized care departments. These projects focused on enhancing clinical functionality, improving patient and staff experiences, and creating spaces tailored to pediatric and behavioral health populations. Each area was uniquely designed to align with its medical function while incorporating intentional interior finishes that support healing, safety, and efficiency.

Emergency Department Renovation
6,004 SF | 16 Treatment Rooms
This pediatric-focused renovation of the hospital’s Emergency Department emphasizes a child-friendly, calming environment without belonging to a children’s hospital. Durable, cleanable finishes balance playfulness with clinical performance, creating a welcoming experience for young patients and their families.

Dialysis Unit
3,716 SF | 7 Treatment Rooms
This inpatient-focused dialysis unit was designed to support both patient care and operational demands. Special attention was given to flooring, plumbing access, and finishes to assist staff in managing potential water-related events and ensure long-term durability and safety.

Pediatric Assessment Unit (Behavioral Health)
6,071 SF | 5 Assessment Rooms | 2 Group Rooms | Meditation Room | Low & High Sensory Rooms | 2 Calm Rooms
Designed to Level 5 Behavioral Health standards, this specialized unit prioritizes safety, sensory regulation, and therapeutic engagement. Secure sally port entryways and wicket doors ensure controlled access throughout. Spaces like the meditation and sensory rooms support individualized care, emotional regulation, and crisis de-escalation.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
4,805 SF | 5 Private Bays | 5 Open Bays
This pediatric-oriented PACU provides direct access to the sterile OR corridor, ensuring efficient patient flow. A mix of private and open bays allows for flexibility in care while maintaining comfort and visual appeal through child-centric finishes.

Children’s Procedure Suite (CHPS) & Children’s Blood Cancer Unit (CBCU)
CHPS: 4,378 SF | 7 Pre/Post Bays | 4 Treatment Rooms | 1 Procedure Room
CBCU: 8,024 SF | 7 Treatment Rooms | Procedure Room | Playroom
These adjacent units were designed to accommodate both short-term procedures and ongoing cancer treatments for pediatric patients. The layout supports privacy, play, and care continuity, with playful yet calming finishes throughout to reduce anxiety for young patients.

Hospital Pharmacy Renovation
20,430 SF
This large-scale renovation modernized the hospital’s pharmacy operations with new automation spaces, hazardous and non-hazardous sterile rooms with ante rooms, controlled substance storage, and designated packing areas. Functional zoning and cleanroom standards were carefully integrated to enhance safety, compliance, and workflow.

Spellman Brady delivered design solutions that were not only beautiful, but functional and safe. Their team understood how to translate clinical needs into healing environments—and their attention to behavioral health standards and pediatric sensitivities was outstanding.
