Spellman Brady & Company completed full interior design services for the renovation of Rolling Green Village in Greenville, South Carolina which is featured on the cover of the Spring 2013 Annual Showcase Issue of Environments for Aging.

Every design student is required to take a course called “Environment and Behavior.” Among other things, this course emphasized one basic principle that is forever engrained in my mind—the key to a person’s well-being is his or her ability to make choices and have a sense of control over his or her life. In addition, the course highlighted resources and data illustrating the profound impact the built environment has on a person’s overall wellbeing. To go into a community, into someone’s home, and make changes without considering these two basic principles is a recipe for disaster, which leads to a series of questions.

Healthcare reform is all the buzz these days and doesn't seem like it will be taking a backseat any time soon with the continued rollout of the 2010 Affordable Care Act. The Department of Health and Human Services will begin offering incentives to hospitals to improve quality of care as part of the new hospital Value-Based Purchase (VBP) program. Under the new value-based purchasing program, an estimated $850 million will be allocated to hospitals in 2013 for their performance on a set of quality measures that improve patient care and satisfaction.

Spellman Brady & Company, a national leader in artwork planning and consulting for healthcare environments, is seeking to review portfolios from sculptors with interest in a project in St. Louis, MO. The work requested is part of a memorial garden celebrating the life of Sister Catherine McAuley and her mission of helping the sick and poor through a traditional story telling medium of a bronze bas relief.
