Spellman Brady & Company Completes Interior Design for Webster University East Academic Building

Posted in:

St. Louis, MO (June 5, 2012) - Spellman Brady & Company recently completed a major project for Webster University’s East Academic Building – the first new classroom building on the university’s St. Louis campus since 1984.  Spellman Brady & Company was responsible for the Interior Design and Furniture Specification and Procurement for the $29 million, 94,323-square-foot building that houses the George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology, as well as other university programs and services.  The building features instruction design and technology and has 31 classrooms, 10 large computer labs, 48 offices, and two large, state-of-the-art public areas for students.

In making interior finish selections, Spellman Brady collaborated with the architectural team to use products that maximize sustainability issues and improve indoor environmental air quality with the goal of the project achieving LEED silver certification.  Several of the flexible spaces include a student commons area that can be transformed from a quiet study and collaboration space into a space for large group events, and flexible classrooms that can be transformed to facilitate group discussions and break-out sessions. Also included in the project were tiered lecture classrooms with fixed tables, and technology labs with instructor stations and student tables that supported the AV/IT requirements of such a lab.

In order to accommodate the University’s variety of teaching methods, Spellman Brady & Company selected and specified movable classroom furniture that can be reconfigured to encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary studies.

Spellman Brady & Company collaborated with Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York City and Mackey Mitchell Architects of St. Louis.  Paric Corporation served as the project’s general contractor.
