Hospice home is first of its kind in central Illinois

Linda Mace felt at home on her visit to the new hospice home that welcomed guests to its open house on Saturday.

The 62-year-old Pekin resident basked in the sunlight-bathed dining room, hoping to eventually serve among a team of volunteers guiding terminally ill patients through their final days of life.

She and many others poured through the doors of the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home from 1 to 4 p.m. to stroll through the sea foam green hallways of the sixteen-bedroom facility. The home is at 8630 N. Illinois Route 91.

Many scouted for aging family members or out of personal curiosity for a service that is the first of its kind in central Illinois—one of four hospice homes in the state.
