Hawthorne place is a 60,000 square foot, new construction property with two Assisted Living Households and one Memory Support Household. Spellman Brady Company’s scope included the interior design, furniture planning, and the artwork and accessory procurement. Our design concept was to create a transitional design with clean lines and pops of colors.  We also wanted to be sure that we stayed within the Bethesda style that we had achieved on previous projects and while giving the project a fresh, higher end feel.

The amenities spaces in this project consisted of a feature lobby, grand stair, library, fitness center, salon and spa and a chapel and pre-function space. Each Assisted Living household has 19 resident apartments (38 total), a hearth room, two lounge spaces, a private dining room as well as a main dining room, kitchen and activity space. The Memory Support household consisted of 20 resident apartments, a hearth room, two lounge spaces, a private dining room as well as a main dining room, kitchen and activity space. In this household, four different resident entry door styles were used. Each door was painted a different color to help with wayfinding and remembering apartment location.

Spellman Brady & Company completed the interior design, furniture specifications & procurement, and artwork master planning for Westbridge; the memory care wing of the Wyndemere Campus. We renovated the spaces with the sole purpose of creating a home that would be safe for those suffering from cognitive disorders.  Spaces in our scope included a dining room, activity room, living room, sitting area and corridors. Each doorway into the 12 apartments was designed to be different to help with wayfinding.  Different door styles were selected as well as paint colors so no two doors were alike.  In addition to this, the Owner’s plant operations team constructed memory boxes which were installed at each resident apartment.  This also helps with wayfinding.  The artwork theme was bright, colorful imagery with a nostalgic theme to help evoke memories.
